Faith, science and medicine meet in bid to tackle Coronavirus myths in Lancashire

Public Health bosses from Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen, a trainee priest and a public health consultant are tackling myths about Covid19 and vaccination in a special webinar this week.

The event entitled 'Covid, Faith, and Public Health; dispelling myths and discerning truths' is on on Thursday, February 4, from 10.30am to 12 noon. It aims to explain the science of Covid19 transmission, debunk myths about vaccination and testing and consider how best to communicate health messages to the public.

It has been organised by the Lancashire Forum of Faiths with the Lancashire Resilience Forum and Lancashire Churches Together.

Spokesman Peter Lumsden, said the webinar would address issues of public interest. He continued: "At the same time, the intention is to encourage discussion in small break-out groups, and in open forum to explore ways in which religious faith intersects with science and public health. Those contributing are medical / public health professionals and are from different religious traditions."

In addition to Lancashire Public Health Director Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, speakers will be Dr Dominic Harrison, Director of Public Health for Blackburn with Darwen, Dr Susan Salt trainee priest and consultant in palliative medicine and Dr Abdul Razaq, a consultant in public health.
