In a statement, Wyre Council said it had decided to act following reports from police.

It also urged people to keep their distance on the Promenade, which people can access as part of their daily permitted exercise.

The council said: “Reluctantly the council has made the decision to close the car park.

“We would also like to re-iterate the government advice, to avoid all non-essential contact as there have been some reports of house parties taking place, which is irresponsible at this time.

“In addition because the prom is a beautiful location it is being used by large numbers of people for their daily exercise, with people driving to the prom to access it.

“We would strongly recommend that people try to take their exercise in areas where people are less likely to congregate and avoid driving to the Promenade.”
