Bispham school shuts for at least 48 hours as teachers go into self-isolation after two positive Covid-19 tests

Westcliff Primary Academy in Bispham has closed for at least 48 hours because teachers have gone into self-isolation following two confirmed Covid-19 cases at the school.

The Crawford Avenue school, run by the Fylde Coast Academy Trust (FCAT), said in a statement the number of staff absent while awaiting their test results means "it has become extremely difficult to deliver education in school at the moment".

It will "divert to remote learning".

Interim director of education Sean Bullen and executive headteacher Sarah Bamber said: "Following two positive tests for coronavirus amongst the school community, we have taken advice from Public Health England and asked affected year groups to self-isolate at home."

One parent said they believed the cases relate to both a teacher and pupil.

Another said youngsters in Year Six have been told to self-isolate for 14 days.

The school will stay shut for two days for all pupils "to allow us to receive ongoing test results", an FCAT spokesman said.

"After 48 hours we will be able to review the situation in the light of these results."
