Praise after primary school is visited by Ofsted

St Hilda’s Church of England Primary School was inspected by the education watchdog following a previous visit in 2013 – when its rating was boosted from ‘inadequate’ to the second best available.

And standards have not slipped since, inspector Elizabeth Stevens said in a letter to headteacher Heather Wareing.

She wrote: “The school is a calm, friendly and happy place where you teach pupils to develop as confident and polite children who care for others.

“Staff and pupils are proud to be part of the school family. The school is a hive of activity.”

Teachers were praised for a rise in standards, and results in maths and English are above the national average. Governors and pupils were also lauded.

The school has now been given tips on how to aim for ‘outstanding’, the best rank, at the next inspection.

Mrs Wareing said: “We are delighted with the report. We feel it’s extremely positive and encouraging.”
