Positive coronavirus case prompts longer self-isolation for pupils in South Shore

A South Shore school has decided to keep self-isolating Year Nine pupils home for longer.

Armfield Academy, in Lytham Road, sent youngsters home last Thursday after a child in that year group tested positive for Covid-19.

They were due back on Monday but, following another confirmed case, they are now due to return next Thursday, headteacher Mark Kilmurray said.

“We understand the impact this has on families and also on the learning of our [pupils] but, as always, we have to act with everyone’s safety as our number one priority,” he said.

Year Eight pupils were also told to learn from home last Monday after a confirmed case in that year group too.

They are due back next Tuesday, Mr Kilmurray said in a letter to parents.
