Over 100 pupils benefit from Bispham school's 'mobile motivation drive'

Two assistant headteachers set off on a mission around the north of the resort yesterday to provide their home-learning pupils with wellbeing packs, essential school equipment and sanitary products.

Elizabeth Cumming and Rob Hegarty, assistant headteachers at Montgomery Academy in All Hallows Road, Bispham, took to their cars to hand out vital items to their pupils during lockdown.

They visited car parks in Grange Park, Norbreck, Gynn Square, Bispham village and Anchorsholme in a bid to hand out stationery, food and sanitary items to children learning from home.

Blackpool Council’s HeadStart programme also provided over 100 self-soothe wellbeing packs for the pupils, as part of its aim to build resilience among youngsters in the resort.

Mrs Cumming said: "The drive was a huge success and exceeded all expectations.

"We had to restock three times, it was so busy. In total we gave out all 100 resilience self soothe packs and supported over 125 families with equipment and anything else that they needed.

"It was an absolute pleasure to see so many of our students, and the sun even made a surprise appearance."

Following Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement yesterday that all pupils in England can return to their classrooms on March 8, she added: "We are really looking forward to welcoming our pupils back to school during the week of March 8, and after speaking to our students yesterday they are definitely excited to be coming back."
