Larkholme Primary School: Habitat Heroes

It began with a group of parents volunteering to come in and work with the children to create different habitat areas. They built log piles using woodchip and logs and rebuilt the bug hotels. These areas will give the local insects homes and food for over winter. Next spring, the children look forward to exploring these habitats and finding different types of insects, like the grasshopper the children discovered.

Larkholme Eco Club have been working hard to make their peers aware of the importance of creating wildlife areas and have held assemblies in school. As part of the outdoor curriculum at Larkholme, learning and climate change and sustainability are integral to the children’s learning. As part of this, Eco Club led the funding campaign last summer to raise the funds to invest in a wildlife pond. This was recently installed and will support local wildlife and the pupils of Larkholme in their learning. Eco Club would like to thank everyone who donated money including Victrex, Larkholme PALs and the grant from the Ernest Cook Trust.
