Ex-Seasiders chairwoman faces Morty's great-granddaughter in college election match

Natalie Christopher, daughter of former Pool owner Owen Oyston and who succeeded her brother Karl to the Bloomfield Road chair, is one of three candidates for the vacant role of parent director among the governors of Blackpool Sixth Form College.

In a three-way contest, she will be up against Nicola Heaney, great-granddaughter of Stan Mortensen, scorer of a hat-trick in Pool's legendary FA Cup win of 1953, along with businesswoman Sukie Woodhouse.

Parents of students at the college have been sent details of the ballot and it has a closing date of noon on Monday, March 15.

In her profile on the ballot details, Natalie says: "I am interested in the role because I appreciate the positive work that Blackpool Sixth does, both in the community and closer to home.

"I have enjoyed working with a couple of Blackpool,Sixth students within my business and it would be nice to be part of the support network developing more students.

"I am happy to take regular work experience or work with you on publishing work. I can put a little time to raising funds for your various projects as and when they arise should that support be useful."

Nicola's profile says: "As an alumni, a parent of a current student, a member of the Career Ready LAB, a former guest speaker at awards evenings and a contributor to MFL master classes, I feel a strong connection to the college, its staff and its students.

"As a local business owner, also with several year's experience working overseas, I can provide a local and far more wide teaching perspective on current and future goals for the college."

Sukie Woodhouse's pitch says she is current a company director and before that, was chairman of the Breastfeeding Network Board of Directors for five years.

"In addition to my volunteer role with this organisation, I was a parent governor of my daughter's primary school for several years," she says.

"I was a 'critical friend' to the headteacher and chaired the Safeguarding Committee. This experience has equipped me to perform on a board."

Blackpool,Sixth Form College was established in 1971 and currently has around 1,900 full-time students.
