Despite struggling with dyslexia, the 22-year-old, from Thornton, this week graduated from Blackpool and The Fylde College with a first class honours degree in Digital Production and Filmmaking from Lancaster University.

And her outstanding achievement was recognised by the College when she was invited to speak on stage at this year’s graduation ceremony.

The former Hodgson Academy pupil said: “I’m over the moon.

“Having done my Level 3 at B&FC I have known some of the tutors for years.

“They’re like family and have been so supportive.

“Our tutors had great contacts in industry. In the first year of my degree, one organised a placement filming at Lytham Festival which went well and we were invited back to do paid work for the next two years.

“We got to interview some of the acts and film the event in a professional capacity.

“The communication skills, alongside the technical knowledge, were some of the most important things I learnt on my course.”

Roxy’s connection with B&FC has been something of a family affair.

Her mother was completing her BA in Fine Art at the College, while Roxy was undertaking her Level 3 programme in media production.

Her partner is due to begin a photography programme in September while Roxy is launching her own film making business and looking to build on her production design skills through some of the College’s short courses in costume-making.

B&FC offers more than 60 degrees accredited by Lancaster University, a top 10 UK institution and 2018 Times and Sunday Times University of the Year.
