Blackpool South MP visits local Samaritans
and on Freeview 262 or Freely 565
The visit on Friday 31 January was important for the branch as it helped volunteers to understand what Chris is doing to support the reduction of suicide in Blackpool, and ways the team can identify key funding opportunities to enable the branch to continue providing the vital service.
Blackpool Samaritans Branch Director Jade welcomed the visit: “It was great to host Chris and show him behind the scenes of what we do. We are definitely going to be exploring the support and potential funding routes that Chris has shared with us so we can make sure we are doing everything we can to raise awareness of the Samaritans mission, and be here for anyone who needs us.”

Hide AdVolunteers gave the local MP an update on the issues in the surrounding area of the branch that affect them directly - such as anti-social behaviour, derelict buildings and parking and he reiterated his support with tackling these alongside the council and local police.

“It was also really helpful to understand Chris’s thoughts on the footfall around our branch - we raised concerns about the lack of footfall in the shopping area on Topping Street where our charity shop is located. This shop helps to provide the funds to keep our branch running so anything that can be done to bring more traffic to the area will be amazing. Chris gave us reassurances that revitalisation of the area is something that is being looked at, as well as a recent significant pot of funding that will help to improve roads and infrastructure, including greenery in the town centre, which is great news.”
