Where there’s a quilt there’s a way

The Hidden Jem of Clifton Street Lytham has had a revamp upstairs to make room for its new clothing range. The shop was founded by Rachael and Julie Moores seven years ago and originally traded in Park Street.

But last April they seized the chance to move to a better location where footfall in the shop has shot up to the point that they had to expand.

Rachael said: “It was a lovely shop in Park Street but people who have lived in Lytham all their lives used to come in and say, ‘We never knew you existed.’”

When the Clifton Street shop came up we were delighted and it has been a great success. Location is everything and it has really boosted the footfall in the shop.”

She said they carefully chose their range of gifts and interiors to be distinctive but at affordable prices.

“It has to be in keeping with the area. We were incredibly busy in the run up to Christmas and through the sales and now we have new changing rooms and the range of women’s clothing and accessories which is exclusive to our area. There are not too many shops offering the sort of things we have at our price point.

“There are some fantastic shops here in Lytham so we don’t want to be in direct competition. You have to find your niche.

“The quilts are very popular. We sold quite a few patchwork quilts before but realised that we could not get the exact designs we wanted so we have worked with the suppliers to come up with our own designs.

“They are available online and at the shop and area proving popular as people like the shabby chic look.”

The family employs eight people at the Lytham shop and three at its sister shop in Knutsford which they opened four years ago.
