Hotel and B&B owners who for years have provided the solid foundations of Blackpool’s thriving tourism sector are now hanging on by a thread due as Lancashire enters Tier 3-level lockdown.

This means the county is now at ‘very high risk’ of coronavirus infection. People are banned from meeting anyone from outside of their household or support bubble, both inside and outdoors.

But despite these strict regulations - which have led to many people sacking off their holiday plans - hotels have not been ordered by the Government to close, and so hoteliers have not been provided with any financial support, unlike pubs.

Struggling business owners will meet in Gynn Square at noon tomorrow to protest the lack of help.

Trevor Davis, owner of the Rivervale Hotel on Lord Street, said; “I have slaved over eight years to build a successful and profitable business to see it all disappearing before my eyes. My neighbours are all in the same position and we all face losing our homes and our businesses. So where is the assistance from the government?”
