The Cube Bar and Restaurant on Breck Road successfully applied to extend the permitted timings for its outside dining area and has been granted permission to remain open an extra hour, until 10pm on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, in a move to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

The application was agreed by Wyre Council’s licensing sub-committee.

Unlike many bars and non-food pubs across Lancashire, The Cube will not be forced to close as a result of new Tier 3 status coming in at midnight tonight (Friday), because it serves food.

However, from Saturday onwards customers will now have to keep to their ‘family bubbles’ when they visit the venue.

Paul Mellor, owner of The Cube Bar and Restaurant, said: “We want all of our customers to feel as safe as possible when they visit us and for a lot of people that means sitting outside in our heated external dining area.

“Extending our licence means that people can stay outside for longer, rather than having to move indoors after 9pm, helping us to create an even safer environment and reduce transmission of the virus.

“We have invested £120,000 on making our premises Covid secure and we’re grateful to the councillors, council departments and the police for their support to hospitality businesses like ours to continue trading and keep our staff employed. ”

The owners were supported by regional law firm Napthens in their submission and Mr Mellor added:” We’re also grateful for the valuable legal support from Napthens to understand and implement the different guidelines and restrictions.”
