Four new ‘Enviro400’ double-deckers and 15 new Enviro22 single-deckers are expected to take to the Fylde coast’s roads from the end of the month, following a deal between Blackpool Transport and Alexander Dennis, Britain’s biggest bus manufacturer.

The new buses contain low-emission Euro 6 engines, which the company says will make the service more environmentally friendly, and will contain wireless phone charging at all seats.

Jane Cole, managing director of Blackpool Transport, says: “Blackpool Transport are proud to have one of the youngest, most environmentally friendly bus fleets in the UK.

“Our investment in new buses, which has been supported by our shareholder, Blackpool Council, is resulting in improved accessibility and enhanced customer satisfaction.

“Blackpool is a world-class resort which attracts millions of visitors each year, and it now has a bus fleet to match.”

The introduction of the new buses will fulfil Blackpool Transport’s promise to completely renew its fleet by the end of this year, as part of a plan to make sure that no bus on the resort’s roads is more than five-years-old.

It also result in the withdrawal of all the remaining older buses, painted in the yellow and black colours, which were introduced in 2010 following the discontinuation of the Metro Coastlines brand.
