Dozens of people stood in line to be among the first to scan the shelves of a new Poulton supermarket as it opened its doors yesterday.

The first 100 people in the queue as the new Aldi store, on Tithebarn Street, opened at 8am were handed a golden envelope containing a prize.

Lucky shoppers had the chance to win a 32-inch television, luxury hampers and vouchers to spend in store.

Bosses say the 1,254 m sq supermarket, which has 88 car parking spaces, has created 35 jobs in the area

Aldi store manager Mark Proctor, said: “There was a great buzz at the store opening this morning, and the team and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting our new customers.

"We’d like to say a big thank you to Fylde Cricket Club for helping us celebrate the store opening.”

The store is reducung prices of certain items as part of its 'opening week offers'.

The store's opening hours are:

Monday – Saturday: 8am – 10pm

Sunday: 10am – 4pm

Bank holidays: 8am – 10pm
