In this role, you’ll need great concentration skills and an ability to work on your own for long periods of time, and you’ll need to be the kind of person who can think on your feet and react and adapt to different situations in line with the industry’s rules and regulations.
On the team you’ll find Managers, Supervisors, Shift Leaders, Operatives and Support - all focused on delivering that true Northern experience - 24/7. So if you’re someone who thrives on providing great customer service, you’ll discover a rewarding career with lots of opportunities for personal development and promotion.
You’ll find our Conductors on our trains and they’re always on hand to help customers along their journeys. And there’s a lot more to this job than just checking tickets and travel documents. It’s also about creating a rapport with customers and being the face of our business
Our amazing Engineering team is responsible for servicing, maintenance and repairs of our traction and rolling stock. Without them, we wouldn’t have any trains to run our service! There’s a huge variety of roles in our Engineering department.
Our Depot Management teams play a vital role in keeping our business running 24/7. They look after the day to day operations at our train depots, and teams consist of Team Leaders with solid industry knowledge, Shift Production Managers and Depot Managers with proven leadership skills, and everyone in between.
We believe that customer service should stretch much further than just our railway lines. And as part of our station and retail teams, you’ll help us do just that.
Join Support Services, and you’ll play your part behind the scenes to help transform rail travel in the UK. Here, our teams meet Northern’s daily needs so that everyone in the business (and all our customers!) can make sure their own days run smoothly.
Join our Ticket Office and you’ll look after customers’ travel needs with the kind of brilliant customer service that Northern is known for. Day to day, you’ll be involved in everything from opening and closing our station ticket offices to answering travel enquiries. And you’ll report station faults as quickly as you find them, too.
Whenever a Northern train takes a break from duty for maintenance or repair, you’ll be the person who brings it in and out of the depot. As well as shunting, there'll be tanking, refuelling and replenishment of other fluids (oils, greases, coolant and so on) to take care of too, which means no two days are ever the same.
