A large number of units, including one full block of apartments have been used to accommodate NHS staff as they battle to keep COVID19 under control. At the height of the pandemic, Charles Alexander managed 15 units for NHS workers.

The owner of Charles Alexander approached NHS bosses following the outbreak to see if their accommodation could be used to house key workers who would be on the frontline. Following an agreement, the lodgings were let out at a special cost to key workers.

The business has also been letting out “isolation pods” for local people travelling back to the area from overseas to isolate away from the community.

Owner Joanne Kirton said: “The NHS have been the absolute bedrock of keeping this virus under control and caring for those who need it the most.

“Some staff lived with at risk adults and we wanted to help them by providing accommodation where they can rest after their shifts. We worked with the NHS to make sure the accommodation could be used for isolation.”
