What you can expect from your trip to a Fylde coast barbers or hair salon

If you're wondering what to expect when you next get your hair cut following the reopening of the Fylde coast's barbers and hair salons, we asked three people who went out on Super Saturday to tell us about their experiences of their first post-lockdown trim.

Jacqui Collumbine, Cleveleys

It was really good - very professional, and I felt very safe. I haven’t been out to a shop since March, except to Morrisons or the pharmacy, although I have driven my sons or husband to the shops so I can have a change of scenery. It was great to go somewhere different.

The salon was incredibly professional. They took your details on a form that you completed with a pen they asked you to keep. We wore masks and my hairdresser, Victoria Witham at O’Hara Hair on Victoria Road West, Cleveleys, wore a full face mask.

After you had completed the form, you had your temperature taken and as long as everything was okay you were invited to sit down.

The gowns they used were plastic disposable ones, and everything was either disposable or fully sterilised.

You had to arrive at your appointment time as there were no waiting facilities, and everyone was spaced out with more than two metres between me and the other person having her hair done.

It was a really happy experience and I felt so much better having not had my hair touched since February.

I know there are a lot of horrific things happening and hair isn’t that important, but it’s amazing how much better mentally it made me feel.

I also know I’m contributing to the economy and helping a self-employed person.

Rachel Slater, Poulton

I took my 10 year-old son, Blake Swallow, to Izmir Barber on Tithebarn Street, Poulton, and we were lucky enough to get a walk-in appointment.

Everything was completely safe and I was very impressed with how careful they were.

The floor was marked, they had taken out the middle chair so there were only two, to keep customers away from each other.

Each barber wore a mask and a visor, washed their hands between customers and cleaned the chairs down.

Blake was apprehensive at first, but as soon as he saw how seriously they were taking safety measures he was fine. They are really lovely people.

James Carpenter, 27, North Shore

I booked an appointment at Jonny's Barbers on Marton Drive, and felt completely relaxed and safe the whole time.

I work at Tesco, and a lot of people tell me they're worried about going to places like the barbers, but it was really well organised.

I was asked to wait outside until my appointment time, and they showed me how they were cleaning everything between customers so I felt reassured.

There was plenty of space, the barbers both washed their hands, wore masks, and there was sanitiser for customers.

I'd definitely recommend going. There were only two of us allowed in at a time, so there is nothing to worry about. It was really clean and I felt very safe.
