Plea for social distancing on Blackpool's buses after some passengers ignore coronavirus safety guidelines

The call from Blackpool Transport comes after it reported a minority of passengers failing to keep two metres away from others.
The firm has put signs throughout their vehicles and on seats that are not to be used so that the correct distance can be maintained to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Hide AdThe firm has also made face coverings available for customers to buy from the driver at £1. Half of that money is being donated to the NHS.

Shane Grindey from Blackpool Transport said; “There are a small number of customers who aren’t following our guidance and this makes it difficult for our driving staff to manage.
“We are unable to enforce any of the measures we have put in place and we are asking that customers follow the guidance from government, follow the measures we have put in place, and be aware of their own and others’ safety.

Hide Ad“Almost all of our customers have told us that they are grateful for the measures we have put in place and are reassured by our actions.”
He added that the firm is increasing the number of buses available as customer demand increases.
He said: “So far since April 10, we have only seen a marginal increase in customer numbers and we have reacted by placing extra buses on any of the busier journeys.
"We are prepared and ready to increase the frequency and number of journeys which are operating as and when customer demand slowly returns. In particular we are liaising with schools to ensure we are as prepared as possible for when/if some school children start to return."

Hide AdBlackpool Transport has also reduced all single fares to £1.50 and accepts cash as a last resort. Customers are asked to use the correct change wherever possible.
Passengers can use its mobile app can be used to buy tickets in advance for a contactless journey.
The firm has a 20 person cleaning team who are boarding buses throughout the day and sanitising all high touch point areas for increased cleanliness. Buses are cleaned every evening.
