"The council have been wanting Scrooges Bar, Reform Health Club and several other land & properties we own in the town centre for redevelopment for some time now.... and a deal has finally been done.
"It is always hard to walk away from a hugely successful business, but even harder to walk away from a way of life and probably losing contact with some of THE SOUNDEST CUSTOMERS any bar could ask for . Scrooges will miss you all loads. Xxx"

Shame, used to be my regular hang out back in the day, especially in my college years when it was Thursday night quiz night and two pint bottles of Stella were £3. Always made me laugh though it was called a 'wine bar' when its always been an out of the way drinking den.

My heart has been broken more by Scrooges closing more than any boy ever could.

That's really sad . Had some amazing nights in scrooges over the years and it's the only bar like it in blackpool . It will 100% be missed by lots of people and town won't be the same without it . I have had some cracking hangovers off the strawberry wine over the years.

Hide AdI worked there in early 80s when John Barnett Terry Pack and Keith McOrmack had it. In the days where we slopped the wine in the glasses to overflowing, until they brought in the new measures. Half price wine nights...Tue 'n' Thurs, packed out shoulder to shoulder. Jimmy the artist doing portraits in exchange for a bottle wine ..(just one of the fab characters in scrooges ) I sprayed snow at Christmas on the windows in the little booths ..horrified when came to wash off and it wouldn't ..I could go on and on ..fab memories .. RIP scrooges xx

Jack and Brenda, my mum and dad, sadly no longer with us. I had many a happy year there visiting with my girls and drinking way too much. It was the first bar I drank in back in the early 80s before mum and dad were there as well! Bit of Blackpool history gone. Good luck with plan for a Scrooge’s 2.

Hide AdFeel emotional. So many memories and funny stories. Doubt very much it will be replaced by anything which is of any cultural value. Scrooges was a key part of mine and many others youth in our hedonistic little town and near safe haven from tourists. Sad day.

Good times had in this bar Gail Williams, Alison Southern back in the day.

Nothing is ever gonna beat walking up those stairs weekend after weekend and falling down them on the way out. Here’s to the best tunes, the good times and to the even messier times. Scrooges will always have my heart.
