Fleetwood ferry sets sail once more as lockdown eases

The Wyre Rose was due to head out on the water on Friday for its usual every half hour trips at quarter to and quarter past the hour dependant on tides which will be posted to the ferry's Facebook page every week.

The vessel, operated by Wyre Marine Services, has been undergoing last minute checks and staff say everyone is delighted to get back to work.

Sammy Greenwood, health and safety officer at the company, said: "We have had a lot of people enquiring as to when it would be back and some lovely supportive comments on our Facebook page.

"People need it to get to work, as it cuts their commute right down and also elderly people relay on it to go shopping.

"It has been out of action since October when the infection rate began to rise and so we stopped the service to protect staff and the public."

This week's sailings are Friday, April 16; 14:15 to 17:45; Saturday 11:45 - 17:45; Sunday 12:45 - 17:45.

Passengers are reminded to wear a face masks and sit in their household or support bubbles. The crew also ask for people to let passengers off before trying to get on board and to let the crew carry out disinfection.
