'End of an era': Sadness as popular Blackpool restaurant Mamma's goes on the market

A long-standing Italian restaurant in Blackpool may have closed its doors for the final time.

Mamma's, on Topping Street, closed in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and is now being marketed by Kenricks Commercial estate agents.

The popular restaurant, which has been trading for 40 years, is available for lease for £24,000 a year.

It shut is doors in March, just before the lockdown, with the owners saying the business would be closed "for the foreseeable future". However, at the time they said they hoped to see customers again "in better times".

A spokesman for Kenricks said: "The restaurant previously traded as the well-known and popular Mammas Italian Restaurant, but we are informed after 40 years of trading it ceased trading in March 2020."

The premises, with space for around 60 diners, is being advertised as a "licensed restaurant/bistro" in a "busy all year-round trading location".

Several people have reacted with sadness to the news.

Posting on Facebook, Sandra Foster said it was the "end of an era".

Sophie Rouse added: "Such an amazing place, best in Blackpool. Had so many memories here."

And Celia Rigby-O'neill said: "So sad for the staff. Lovely place and food. Best mushrooms anywhere."
