Director Sukie Woodhouse said: “This recognition is a reflection on our team who constantly show professionalism and care when dealing with our customers. It’s always nice when that personal touch is recognised.”

During last year’s first lockdown the practice in Highfield Road, South Shore, remained open for essential and emergency calls.

Sukie added: “Spectacle repairs were constant and contact lens patients needed deliveries. Staff unfortunately had to be furloughed and the situation was very uncertain but gradually we began to think about life after lockdown.

“What started with a desire to be Covid-safe quickly grew into a bigger revamp. Our practice has been given a smart new look, with updated fittings and more space.”

During the current lockdown the practice can continue to look after patients with appointments.

To keep everyone safe the practice invested in a state-of-the-art aircon system to improve air flow and all staff wear scrubs and PPE.

The practice was given a revamp in the first lockdown with new fittings and increased space.

A spokesman for SightCare said “They have shown not only great dedication to their small independent business, but to their local community, making them worthy Lockdown Heroes.”
