Blackpool Transport has warned that due to the new Government safety guidelines people must wear masks on public transport from June 15 to help stop the spread of Covid-19 to others.

Apart from exceptions due to medical conditions and under 11s, all passengers must wear them or be asked to get off the bus.

But the firm said drivers will have face masks to sell, for £1 to cover costs with 50p donated to the NHS, while stocks last.

A spokesman said: “If you fall in to any of the excluded categories and you are unable to wear a face covering whilst travelling with us, please let your driver know when boarding. Where possible, download and print one of our cards to show to our teams.

“Please be courteous to our drivers who are only doing their job and following the latest government guidance.”

The company said that drivers may not be wearing masks as they are behind protective screens as per health guidelines, but will do so if they have to leave the cab for any reason.

It also said that since the measures were ultimately for customer safety drivers will treat each person individually. For example, they would not leave a vulnerable person or a child at the roadside if it was late at night.
