With the support of an acclaimed chef – none other than her husband Terry who won Hell’s Kitchen in 2005 – the award-winning beautician has launched afternoon tea business, Sweet

Occasions.

Nicola, from Cleveleys, said: “For the last six years I have been working as a very successful bridal make-up artist.

“I won numerous awards for my work and then Covid-19 came along.

“My work disappeared overnight as I was forced to close my doors by the government for six months.

“I was allowed to reopen on August 15 but with the current restrictions on weddings a lot of my work that I had booked in for this year has been cancelled or postponed.

“Usually, I would be working on three weddings a week and I have only had three weddings for the whole year so I decided I needed to get a plan B in place.

“I enjoy being self employed and I was trying to think of what I could do in this current climate.

“Quite a few people on Facebook were asking for recommendations of people who deliver afternoon tea and I started looking into it a little more.

“I wanted to create something luxurious that would also make a nice gift.

“I also wanted to create different themes with my afternoon teas so they can be given as gifts instead of flowers.

“There are a lot of people working from home at the moment and shielding so it’s a really nice treat to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.”

Sweet Occasions offers 12 different afternoon tea themes including festive, new mum, and happy birthday. Each package comes with a three tier cake stand which is recyclable and a

personalised cover decorated with a satin bow.

Nicola added: “We bake everything ourselves at home. I have a little help from my husband Terry who used to be a chef.

“He won Hell’s Kitchen in 2005 and has a very successful career working for some very high profile celebrities.

“He retired a few years ago and just comes out of retirement when I need help with the baking!

“Our afternoon tea contents will vary with the seasons so repeat customers won’t get bored of the same thing each time they order.

“Our festive afternoon tea will contain delicious mince pies and our homemade Christmas cake along with dainty cakes and sandwiches.

“We will be launching a few more products next year with Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Easter themes.”

Sweet Occasions afternoon teas – which have been given a 5 star food and hygiene rating from Wyre Council – can be delivered across the Fylde coast from Fleetwood to Lytham or

further afield for larger orders.

Nicola added: “For instance, if there was an office who couldn’t offer their staff a Christmas party this year but they still wanted to treat the staff we would deliver to their office providing

there was a minimum order of three packages of tea for two.

“We can go as far as Manchester and Liverpool with our larger orders."

The afternoon teas cost £25 per person.
