In the 27th year of the global annual Thea Awards on November 19, Blackpool Pleasure Beach won a 'classic award', recognising the visitor attraction as a symbol of excellence.

Turning 125 years old next year, the attraction and amusement park, on Ocean Boulevard, became the recipient for the award.

The TEA described the Pleasure Beach as "standing among few comparables in the world of themed entertainment, connecting the industry's past and future" having first been established in 1896.

The TEA are an international and non-profit association that represents leading creators, developers, designers and producers from around the world.

Each year their committee considers up to 200 nominations, awarding themed entertainment businesses for their high standards of excellence and achievement.

When speaking about the Pleasure Beach winnings, the Themed Entertainment Association said: "As one of the world’s first and most iconic amusement parks, it has survived two world wars and the harsh environment of its seaside location while continually providing family fun and thrills for generations and remarkably also being a family-owned and operated business since its inception, currently under the care of the fourth generation of Blackpool lineage.

"Most notable is the park’s surviving collection of vintage rides, some of these are the last remaining types of their kind in the world. Their additions in the modern era have been equally impressive."

And Pleasure Beach bosses have recently confirmed that they will remain Covid-secure during their Christmas celebrations this year.

They are set to host some festive events this year in their very own Blackpool north pole, including a Santa's Grotto and a Gatsby-themed dinner show from December 5 to 24.
