Beaverbrooks closes online operation during coronavirus crisis

Lancashire jewellery firm Beaverbrooks has closed its online service and warehouse.

The St Annes-based business said it had taken the steps to protect staff in the coronavirus crisis.

The retailer had already announced last Monday, that it was closing its 69 shops to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Now the family firm, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, has decided to shut down its warehouse and delivery service too. But it said it would honour orders already placed.

Anna Blackburn, managing director at Beaverbrooks, said: “It is with great sadness that we have made the difficult decision to close our website and warehouse operations until further notice.

“As a family owned business, the safety and wellbeing of our people is our utmost priority, and despite current government guidance for online retailers to continue normal operation, we need to do everything we can to protect our colleagues, their families and the wider community. "

The firm won the Best Place to Work at the 25th annual Retail Week Awards earlier this month, where the company was prised for its "ongoing commitment to employees, highlighting the generous benefits on offer, strong family values and community focus".

Anna Blackburn added: “We will be working hard to fulfil any existing orders made before 3pm Friday, March 27, but delivery may take slightly longer than usual. We won’t be able to take any new orders or returns after this point, until further notice.

“As we all stay at home, adjust to our ‘new normal’ and get through this together, we still want to be there for you and we’d still love to hear from you.

"Please keep checking our website, blog and social media channels in the coming weeks and sharing your special moments with us, because at times like these love is more important than ever.
