From socially distanced outdoor rehearsals to sourcing props on a shoestring – the show must go on!

Due to government regulations regarding social distancing within the theatre, the audience capacity will be smaller than usual meaning that there is no budget for costumes or props.

“We are quite fortunate to have a good amount of furniture and props in our store that we have built up over the years,” said crew member Andrea Cave, “but it is still quite a challenge to get those items that we don’t have in stock when we can’t just go and buy them. Our members have been brilliant, rummaging around their attics and garages to search out some of the essentials and there’s a great local amateur theatre network who have been able to help us with some furniture, so it’s all coming together.”

Most of the action in the play, Alan Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking, takes place in a garden so the stage crew are using an abundance of flowers, foliage and vintage garden tools to transform the stage into a rural idyll. However, the play opens in a small bedsit flat which needs a different set of props and furniture. Relatively Speaking, Lowther Pavilion, October 21-24.
