Bobby Ball's play unveils real drama backstage

Think of The Dresser with more laughs and you have The Dressing Room - as penned by one Mr Bobby Ball, comedian of this parish.

Bobby’s play (what he wrote, to quote the late Ernie Wise) has already played to great reviews and sell-out shows last year.

Now he’s bringing it back to Fleetwood on Saturday July 30.

He will be joined at the Marine Hall by an all star cast including Tommy Cannon, Stu Frances and Johnnie Casson.

In fact, the four hold the genesis of the play, which came hot on the heels of Bobby’s success with Rock Off, Tommy.

The Dressing Room grants the audience a sneak preview into life behind the scenes.

Unlike The Dresser it plays for laughs - but there’s a fair degree of pathos in three too.

Each act waits their turn to be called to stage. One by one they make their performance before returning to the dressing room where the gossip and misunderstandings continue.

The real action, in other words.

Bobby, who’s made the Fylde his adopted home, and throws himself into community and charity life locally, loves the chance to play on home turf.

He said: “We had such a good time at the Marine Hall last year, the play went down really well with the audience – so we’ve decided to come back!

“I always describe the show as part variety, part play – or playriety as I like to call it! The cast all perform their own variety act, but the play also shows the audience what life is like backstage. They get to hear all the gossip, what we think of the audience, how we think our performances went – all the stuff you don’t usually get to see.”

Bobby admits he’s got two close friends other than Tommy - Stu and Johnnie - and both leapt at the chance to be involved.

The Dressing Room is at Marine Hall on Saturday 30 July, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £16 and are on sale now. To book call 01253 887693 or book online at www.marinehall.co.uk
