Pooches light up Promenade for doggie fashion show

But with a difference...all canine participants became four-legged light installations in a bid to get people walking and coming together for the Illuminations season.

Starting at the Jubilee Gardens opposite Gynn Square, Saturday’s show saw flashing, scintillating and pulsing pooches parade along North Promenade, glowing as they went.

The most creatively dressed pet was crowned LumiDog Champion 2014 and scooped the prize of vaccinations for life, courtesy of Vets4Pets, Warbreck.

The winner was Wellie-Bob “The Rocket Dog”, owned by Adele Downes-Geddes.

Duncan Hodgson, marketing and audience development manager of organisers Left Coast, said: “Working alongside the Illuminations we took part in ‘Ride the Lights’ which saw people decorating their bikes with colourful lights.

“The concept behind LumiDogs was to again get people out of their cars and get owners and dogs to take part.

“It was a great turnout, with around 20 canines and their owners and nearly 200 spectators during the walk down North Promenade.

“We had one dog dressed as an angel and even a Rocky Horror dog.”

Prior to the event, LeftCoast offered people the chance to take part in free workshops to decorate their four-legged friends in lights and make them part of the world famous Illuminations.

Michael Trainor, artistic director of LeftCoast, said: “We are delighted to bring this world first to Blackpool as part of the Iluminations season.

“The area has a lot of dog owners so we felt this was the perfect way to get people out of their cars and experiencing the famous Lights in a unique way – it’s barking but brilliant.”
