Star Wars: Andor and Narcos star Diego Luna on set filming in Cleveleys as fans come out in force

Hollywood star Diego Luna has officially touched-down in Cleveleys to reprise his role in new Disney+ series Star Wars: Andor.

Production company E&E Industries and nearby security guards have kept tight-lipped about which series is being filmed in Cleveleys so far.

But the arrival of Diego Luna on set this week appears to have confirmed the series is indeed Star Wars: Andor, an upcoming 12-part series created by Tony Gilroy for Disney+.

Andor is the prequel to hit film Rogue One, following the character Cassian Andor five years before the events of the flick.

Diego Luna, is reprising his role as leading man Cassian Andor and was filming on Cleveleys beach this week for new 12-part Disney+ series Andor, a prequel to the hit movie Rogue One.

Mexican actor Diego Luna, 41, who also starred as cartel leader Miguel Gallardo in the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico, has been confirmed as reprising his role as Andor.

As fans of Star Wars will know, Andor is a soldier, pilot, and intelligence officer who joins a Rebel mission to stay plans for the Death Star, a superweapon built by the Galactic Empire – and used by Darth Vader to destroy planets.

Road closures remain in place on sections of the Prom until May 11 while filming takes place.

But the closures didn't stop eager fans coming out in the rain to spot Rebel leader Luna today, and production carried on despite the wet and windy weather.

Stormtroopers have arrived on the Fylde coast! Stormtroopers are elite special forces loyal to the evil Empire. There are variants of Stormtroopers in the movies, named in relation to the setting they inhabit. Coastal defender troopers, or Shoretroopers, are likely to be the forces surrounding the Irish Sea during the filming.
Excited Star Wars fans braved the rain in a bid to see some of the filming taking place on the Promenade and beach in Cleveleys. Filming is expected to take place until May 11.
Members of the production team have been working on props as actors were spotted working on the Promenade in Cleveleys.
Palm trees have been placed around the perimeter of the Promenade around Cafe Cove, which has been transformed in resemblance to a galactic marketplace. Small droid-like structures have also been placed inside the cylindrical shelter adjacent to the car park by the cafe.
Despite the sporadic bouts of rain and wind in Cleveleys today, the production crews have carried on working on the set of new Disney+ series Andor. The series will be broadcast in 12 episodes in 2022.
Star Wars fans have been gathering in Cleveleys since filming began on May 1, to catch a glimpse of the action taking place on the Prom and beach. Despite production team E&E Industries keeping tight-lipped about the title of the series being filmed, the abundance of photos and video footage emerging online appears to confirm that the series is Andor, a prequel to hit movie Star Wars: Rogue One.

Machinery has been moving green screens and special effects equipment around Cleveleys prom today, with onlookers standing on the sidelines hoping to see some of the action. The filming is taking place from Cafe Cove up to the Prom and beach at Anchorsholme, with road closures and diversions in place until May 11.
Spherical structures, which appear to resemble galactic market stalls, have been installed along the promenade opposite JD Gym. Actors and extras could be seen shooting scenes in the glorious Fylde coast sun yesterday,
Set pieces have also been installed in some of the cylindrical shelters along the promenade adjacent to the car park, and palm tree props have been set up along the seafront. Green screens have been moving along the prom as special effects and stunts have been taking place during filming.
Cafe Cove has received extensive renovation in recent days, as it was repainted to to fit in with a more galactic atmosphere and new windows and doors were installed.
Residents were thrilled after the first sightings of Stormtroopers, elite soldiers of the Galactic Empire, were seen on Cleveleys promenade yesterday.
