More than 70 budding writers from St George’s School put pen to paper for the competition, writing short horror stories.
Year Eight students from the Cherry Tree Road school, in Marton, narrowed down the entries from the Year Seven pupils, based on originality, creativity and written accuracy.
And the finalists were judged by Elaine Silverwood from Silverdell Books in Kirkham, who pored over the entries, reading them a few times each to be sure of the worthy winner.
Elizabeth Baird took first place prize for her story, A Resident of the Asylum.
In second place was Courtney Wood with Ghost Story.
And in third place was Kira Thompson for her tale, Soulless.
