Spring has barely sprung but Blackpool Grand Theatre is all set to launch its winter pantomime – in the middle of summer!
Stars of Cinderella, including Danny Miller (Emmerdale’s recently departed Aaron Livesy ), Grand favourite Steve Royle, Amy Thompson (from Channel 5’s Milkshake) and Radio Wave’s Hayley Kay will be spending the morning of Wednesday, August 29, in Blackpool’s Stanley Park and they want to meet you.
Everyone in invited to go along between 11am and 2pm to this free family fun day in the park’s award winning picnic area where there will be this face painting, a bouncy castle and giveaways plus the chance to meet the creatures from Blackpool Zoo’s Creepy Crawly Roadshow and the Grand Theatre’s Matcham Monkey.
Stockport-born Danny Miller played Emmerdale’s troubled mechanic Aaron Livesy from 2008 until earlier this month. His four years in the show saw him play a key role in some of the soap’s most controversial storylines.
Throughout his time in Emmerdale Danny starred alongside Pauline Quirke, who will be appearing at The Grand in Birds of a Feather next week. Joining Danny in Cinderella will be Grand favourite and radio presenter Steve Royle, who returns to the theatre for his 10th consecutive year in panto.
As well as being a veteran of Grand Theatre panto Steve is an actor, comedian, writer, juggler and a regular presenter on BBC Radio Lancashire.
In 1996 Steve won the Search for a Star competition at the Talk of the Coast and was voted Critic’s Choice at the Showcall Showcase in 1997. He is a co-founder of the Slaughterhouse-Live (‘Laughter’ with an ‘S’) character comedy nights. The group regularly perform at The Comedy Store and were nominated for Best Touring Show at the Manchester Comedy Awards, losing to Peter Kay! They’ve also had successful performances at The Lowry, Salford and a sell out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Channel 5’s Milkshake presenter Amy Thompson will be appearing as Cinderella. This will be a return to The Grand for the presenter who starred in the 2010 pantomime Aladdin. Amy studied acting at the University of Hull, graduating in 2003. Her theatre credits include Teechers, Christmas Crackers, Salt of the Earth and many more, all written and directed by John Godber for Hull Truck Theatre Company. Amy also appeared as Jenny Nelson in Emmerdale before joining Milkshake in 2009.
Radio Wave’s Breakfast Show host Hayley Kay takes on the role of Fairy Godmother.
This adaptation of Cinderella is presented by Martin Dodd for UK Productions - the company which has presented some of the most critically acclaimed touring musicals in recent years, UK Productions has also produced pantomimes at Blackpool Grand Theatre for the past 16 years.
