Variety is back at Blackpool Central Pier – as part of this year’s Showzam! line-up. Slightly Fat Features, a unique variety ensemble, is to appear in Blackpool for the first time as part of a national tour bringing a new generation of variety to the theatres of Britain.

Variety by the Sea, which will be on the pier from February 23 to 27, is described as “an age-immune vaudeville show packed full of heart stopping stunts and classic comedy.”

Slightly Fat Features has been wowing audiences and critics alike in theatres and festivals across the UK, winning standing ovations and performing a sell-out run at the legendary London venue The Roundhouse.

The company was also featured on Evan Davis’ BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme when he was tied up Houdini style in a straight-jacket and chains.

It also performed parts of the show for Alan Titchmarsh on ITV1 – involving him performing some stunts.

The seven person Slightly Fat Features company is produced by 30 year old Goronwy Thom.

Raised in Sheffield he ran away to the circus at 16, spent time with the Moscow State Circus and began performing as hosts to many different shows.

From there he forged a highly successful career as a circus and street performer as well as studying as an actor at Bretton Hall.

Not one to be pinned down, Goronwy has performed at the National Theatre, compered the big top at Glastonbury, appeared on film, radio and television, toured the world performing on the top ocean liners including regularly on the QE2, performed in ballets, operas, plays and is the ever growing personality behind Slightly Fat Features.

He is internationally recognised as a top variety performer, and can play and sing, spin plates, throw knives, unicycle, do magic, be funny and is an expert juggler.

He has recently returned from performing shows in Beirut.

The show in Blackpool will be packed with circus tricksters, original live music and plenty of laughs. The company has just returned from storming an international festival in France.

Tickets are £10 adults, £8 students/seniors/groups, £5 under 16 and £25 for a family of four.

Tickets are available from the Winter Gardens box office on 0844 856 1111 or Tourist Information Centre, Clifton Street, Blackpool (01253) 478222 or online at
