From the rambling Rockies to the wild outbacks of Barnacre, Garstang Unplugged welcomes the Random Canyon Growlers’ debut UK tour tomorrow.
“Hard driving bluegrass and old time music boosted by laser beam harmonies” is how the Random Canyon Growlers have been described.
The group formed in the Tetons a few years back and have accrued a very talented group of musicians from all over the Northern Rockies that they call upon to maintain their sound and vision.
Following the announcement of a marriage in the band and the ensuing relocation of one member back to the north east, it appeared imminent they might have to put things on hold and regroup. But they quickly came to a unanimous decision that, regardless of the bittersweet nature of the idea, they wanted to make a full-length studio album to document what they’d accomplished during the previous 16 months.
The result of four days in producer Ben Winship’s Hen House Studios became their debut album, the curiously entitled …Dickey Ain’t Got All Day. Reinvigorated, the Random Canyon Growlers are now taking their interpretation of traditional bluegrass music to as many people as are willing to listen.
The touring line-up is Matt Donovan (bass), Jon Degroot (mandolin, lead guitar and vocals), Matt Herron (fiddle), Brock Benjamin (banjo and vocals) and Jamie Drysdale (guitar and lead vocals).
Tickets for tomorrow at the Kenlis Arms are £10 and you can hear samples on the web at http://www.randomcanyongrowlers.com
