Let’s dance! Film and TV star Warwick Davis caused shoppers and holiday-makers to stop and stare, as he tripped the light fantastic across Blackpool’s Comedy Carpet yesterday.
The 3ft 6ins star – well-known for his roles in Star Wars Episode VI, Willow, Harry Potter, and An Idiot Abroad 2 – was in town to film for a new show about Britain’s favourite holiday resorts.
He and his family, wife Samantha, son Harrison, 10, and daughter Annabel, 16, are taking part in an ITV1 series called Home Grown, which involves a road trip around the country, visiting some of the UK’s most famous holiday destinations.
While in Blackpool, they visited Blackpool Zoo, The Tower and the Promenade.
On the comedy carpet, they had dance lessons from flamboyant ballroom dance pair The Sugar Dandies – Soren and Bradley Stauffer-Kruse – who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent.
Soren said: “It’s very exciting for us to be here and filming with Warwick. We hope to show off Blackpool as it’s our favourite British holiday resort, we think of it like our country retreat, away from the hustle and bustle of London.
“And of course Blackpool is the epicentre of ballroom dancing.”
Shaun Fecitt, 16, from Bispham, was among those watching Warwick learn to dance.
He said: “I think it’s brilliant, I am a really big fan of Warwick. I love Idiot Abroad 2. I’ve really enjoyed watching him dance.”
Macaulay Redfern, also 16 and from Bispham, added: “He is just so funny, I think he’s great. We’re really glad we had the chance to see him.”
And day-tripper Susan Gillham, from Wigan, was with her three children who were delighted to be able to take photos of the star.
She said: “We had just been to the Tower and heard Warwick was here, so we came over to see him.
“The children were really excited to see him and took lots of pictures.”
