A YouTube sensation which fooled viewers into thinking a love-lorn young woman was in Paris when, in fact, she was writing to her boyfriend from Blackpool has been named as one of the most romantic adverts ever.
Council tourism chiefs commissioned the 90-second drama to promote the resort in 2009.
And now J’aime La Tour has been named number 8 in the top 10 most romantic ad campaigns by Marketing magazine.
The video shows a French girl’s fear of leaving Blackpool – the town she has fallen in love with, because her boyfriend has been offered a job in London.
Set in a cafe in Stanley Park, the film uses flashbacks of the girl enjoying the resort’s attractions with her Lancastrian lover before he returns to tell her he has turned down the job because “the weather in London is rubbish”.
To celebrate she orders them a “casserole d’Lancashire”, or hotpot as it’s better known.
The advert appeared above adverts for De Beers diamonds and perfume Chanel No 5.
The famous “Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo?” campaign of 1981 took the top spot.
Coun Graham Cain, cabinet member for tourism and leisure, said: “We’re thrilled to see J’aime La Tour in the top 10 romantic ads of all time and hope this message still resonates with people.
“We want visitors to discover what’s new in the resort and the huge amount we have on offer to make you fall in love with Blackpool. There’s something for all the family or to create the perfect romantic break.”
