Visitors to Blackpool will be well acquainted with ferris wheels, but a new film could make the resort synonymous with hamster wheels too.
Comedian Harry Hill is set to begin filming the eponymous caper The Harry Hill Movie this coming weekend, and details of the plot are beginning to emerge.
The story will see the big-collared comic take a road trip to the resort after he learns his hamster has only a week to live.
During their travels, Harry and his petrol drinking mother (played by Julie Walters) will be pursued by a mad vet (portrayed by Inbetweeners star Simon Bird), and come across pop band The Magic Numbers who have opened a B&B. The film will climax in a dramatic showdown at the top of Blackpool Tower.
Former Little Britain funny man Matt Lucas will play Harry’s fictional evil twin brother Otto.
The star of Harry Hill’s TV Burp has co-written the script and will film the comedy around the UK over the next eight weeks.
He said: “I’m thrilled at last to be able to tell the world the true story of my hamster’s struggle and even more excited to be working with some comedy greats of the British film industry.”
A fantastic way to show off the town’s landmarks
A spokesman for Marketing Blackpool said: “We are delighted Harry Hill’s comedy caper is being filmed in Blackpool.
“It is aimed at a family audience so we feel it will be a fantastic showcase for some of the resort’s most iconic landmarks and attractions.
“Blackpool is frequently the number one choice for location managers for a wide range of film shoots from children’s TV programmes and soap operas to TV commercials and music videos and it is great to be able to work with professionals on such positive projects.”
