St Annes and ex-Lancashire cricketer Andrew Flintoff is off into the celebrity jungle.

While the UK series of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here jets its stars to the Australian outback, Freddie will set foot into the Australian version of the programme - filmed in South Africa.

He’s spent part of the winter down under, playing for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League campaign, the Australian version of the fast and furious Twenty20 cricket.

Freddie will join Australian Masterchef winner Julie Goodwin as an I’m A Celeb camp ‘intruder’, in an announcement made on Aussie current affairs show The Project on Friday night.

The 37-year-old will be stepping into the lions’ den among the Aussies, as one of the heroes of the famous 2005 Ashes victory - and he’s admitted his biggest jungle fear was fellow campmate fellow cricketer Merv Hughes.

Asked if he was afraid of any wildlife he may encounter, Freddie said: “I’m scared of Merv! He’s the biggest animal in that jungle!

“We don’t get bugs and snakes in the north of England, so I think they’ll cause me more problems then the eating challenges.”
