Blackpool-born actress Jenna Coleman is reportedly quitting her Doctor Who role for an ITV drama about the early life of Queen Victoria.
Jenna, who returns to screens on Saturday as the doctor’s assistant Clara Oswald, has reportedly been cast in the eight-hour series called Victoria.
According to an ITV press release earlier this year filming is due to start this month.
The former Arnold School headgirl has been the Time Lord’s longest serving companion since the show returned in 2005, working with Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi in the title role during the past three years.
National media have reported that Jenna, who was back in her home town on Saturday attending Blackpool Comic Con at the Winter Gardens, has already filmed her final scenes as Clara and will leave the BBC show before its Christmas special.
Earlier this week Jenna was asked how long she would stay on the show, and told the Radio Times: “You’re in Doctor Who knowing it will never last.
“It’s constantly regenerating, so you want to make your time count and enjoy the adventure for the fleeting time you’re here”.
