Life is never easy for Coronation Street’s Tracy Barlow, and we all know the festive season isn’t quite so fun-filled as it is in real life.
Corrie actress and ex-Blackpool and Fylde College student Kate Ford, who plays the wicked soap queen, chats Christmas – at the end of a difficult year, when the love of Tracy’s life has done a runner for killing Tina McIntyre.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS MEMORY?
When I was a little girl, I used to creep down in the middle of the night and open one present, always thinking I would get away with it because obviously you’re not allowed to disturb Santa. So yes, sneaking down and opening a present before I should have done.
FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS CAROL/SONG?
Once In Royal David City or Jingle Bells.
FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS FILM?
Home Alone, the first one. I like watching it with my son Otis.
WILL TRACY BE HAVING A MERRY CHRISTMAS?
I don’t think it’s going to be too nice, obviously because of what’s gone on with Rob, the love of her life. But I think she’s going to try and paint a brave face on and make the most of it... Terrorising people.
DEPICT YOUR PERFECT CHRISTMAS
All the traditional stuff really; roast dinner with all the trimmings, loads of food, loads of booze, a glass of wine at 11am. Spending time with my family – that’s what it’s all about: Family time.
FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS CORRIE MEMORY?
It’s always interesting at the Barlows’ as there’s always something going on during Christmas. I just enjoy filming a Barlow Christmas, it’s lovely to be part of it.
IF YOU COULD INVITE ANY FAMOUS FIGURE, PAST OR PRESENT, TO YOUR CHRISTMAS DINNER, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Marilyn Monroe, to add a bit of glamour.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO FIND IN YOUR CHRISTMAS STOCKING?
I don’t know, I’ve pretty much got everything I want, really. Basically, I’m not bothered about what I get, I just want to have a happy Christmas and a nice time with family and friends.
SPROUTS – DISGUSTING OR DELICIOUS?
Delicious, especially when they are roasted with pancetta as they taste like crisps. Jessica Alba has got this really good recipe for sprouts in her book and they are really nice.
WHO’S YOUR FAVOURITE PERSON TO WORK WITH?
I love working with Ali King, Lisa George and Kym Marsh (Carla Connor, Beth Tinker and Michelle Connor).
