Date set for next pigeon fanciers weekend as popular show marks 50th anniversary
The ‘Crufts of the pigeon world’ will return to Blackpool next year to mark its fiftieth anniversary, organisers have confirmed.
The British Homing World Show of the Year, hosted by the Royal Pigeon Racing Association (RPRA), was held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
But the RPRA has now announced plans to hold next year’s event on January 15 and 16, 2022.
The show, which usually takes place at Blackpool’s renowned Winter Gardens each January, harnessed its digital presence this year as a record number of fanciers logged on to its new
website to virtually experience a world-first sporting event within the pigeon racing community.
This digital platform will run alongside next year’s physical show to mark its fiftieth celebrations and reach a wider audience.
Ian Evans, the chief executive officer of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association, said: “Like many events within the industry, the British Homing World Show of the Year had to adapt to meet
the ongoing coronavirus restrictions. “Fortunately, this has allowed us to harness our online presence to target a wider audience whilst incorporating new ideas to modernise the event in
such a digital world.
“Next year is the show’s fiftieth anniversary and we are very much looking forward to bringing a huge celebration to Blackpool, with many surprises in the pipeline.”
The British Homing World Show of the Year will show and judge some of the top racing pigeons from the UK as well as feature trade stands, auctions, talks, films and more.
