Club boss will have his day in court

Bosses at Uber in Poulton have appealed a decision by Wyre Council to revoke the nightspot’s licence.

The authority suspended Uber’s licence in December and decided, in January, it should be completely withdrawn.The decision was made after police raised concerns about the Vicarage Road bar, their fears brought to the attention of the council following an unspecified ‘incident’.

Uber’s appeal would normally have been heard by magistrates in Blackpool. But The Gazette understands it has been moved because one of the Blackpool circuit magistrates is also a member of Wyre’s licensing committee.

Club boss Elliott Simpson is hoping the decision made at Wyre Civic Centre last month will be overturned.

He said: “Nothing has changed, the club is still there but we haven’t been able to open since December.

“The hearing will be in Manchester which may be better for us.

“It will be heard by people who are more detached from the case.”

Mr Simpson, along with officials from Wyre Council and Lancashire Police, is expected to give evidence at the appeal hearing.

The case will be listed at Salford City Magistrates Court.

Uber, which opened in 2012 on the site of the former Residence club, was forced to cancel several Christmas and New Year event.

The club’s management made an online appeal before Christmas to help find bar staff jobs while the licence issue is resolved.

The night spot has not opened since Wyre’s decision to suspend its licence, which was made on December 9.
