TV comedy star Jason Manford is heading to Blackpool North Pier, it was revealed today.

A one-off special by the stand-up comedian is being hosted by HRH Entertainment, the company headed by resort-based compere and manager Tony Jo which is producing this season’s North Pier Theatre programme.

Jason recently won over Blackpool FC fans by wading into the ‘Oyston Out’ campaign on social media.

Now a gig has been announced for the pier theatre on Monday, August 3, with Billy Hunter in support.

Although best known for his appearances on TV shows such as 8 out of 10 Cats, Live At The Apollo and Would I Lie To You, he is currently touring the UK as Leo Bloom in musical The Producers and starred in the recent BBC hit drama Ordinary Lies. He has also headlined sell-out tours Off On Tour We Go and First World Problems.

Jason also oversees Manford’s Comedy Club - which has booked a series of dates at the Merrie England bar on North Pier, showcasing up-and-coming comedians - all approved by Jason, on a weekly basis from Wednesday, June 24 to Wednesday, August 26.

Tony Jo was announced last November as the lead for the historic theatre’s 2015 season, promising star turns from household comedy names.

At the time Tony said he was in talks with management and was confident top TV comedians would headline the boardwalk’s 1,400-seater theatre.

The dates currently lined up include QEII - ‘the UK’s ultimate tribute to Queen’, Give Me The Moonlight - a tribute to Frankie Vaughan, local harmony act The Ragdolls, Six Shots Of Scotch - ‘the best of Scotland’s new comedy stars’, Joe Longthorne and Johnnie Casson every Saturday and Sunday from August to October, and Dancing Queen - an Abba tribute show.

Tony says he plans to raise money throughout the season, including the Jason Manford night, for a dedicated bowel cancer unit at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, in recognition of the care and treatment he received there.

Tickets for the Jason Manford show cost £30 and £25, from 01253 623304, and go on sale at 10am today.
