The first in a double dose of murder for the autumn comes to the Grand Theatre from Monday.

Middle Ground Theatre Company presents a new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s A Murder Is Announced, starring Judy Cornwell - Keeping up Appearances’s Daisy, as Miss Marple, with Diane Fletcher (House Of Cards), Sarah Thomas (Last Of The Summer Wine) and Rachel Bright (EastEnders).

The story gets underway when village residents read an astonishing advert in the local newspaper, that a murder will take place at the home of Letitia Blacklock, and they’re drawn there at the appointed time - when the lights go out and a gun is fired.

Later in the season, from November 3 to 7, Sherlock Holmes And The Ripper Murders, an original stage play, sets the detective in the midst of Victorian London, as the popular press are consumed with the grisly serial killings of prostitutes and vulnerable women in Whitechapel.
