THE Fylde Coast could be the launch pad for the next big thing in comedy thanks to a brand new comedy night set up by the son of Catchphrase comedian Roy Walker.
More than 100 people packed into Lytham Cricket Club on Thursday for Phil Walker’s first comedy night at the new venue.
Comic Mike Wilkinson opened the show before two 10 minute slots where home-grown wannabe comics can take to the stage and try out their work. The headline act was Simon Bligh.
Phil, who has been touring the comedy circuit for 13 years after starting out as a Pontins Blue Coat, said: “It was a great night, I’m really pleased with how it went. I have wanted to do something like this for a while and found the right venue in a nice, intimate space. Everyone there seemed to enjoy it.”
The pressure was on for the stand up acts, as veteran comics Mr Walker and Bobby Ball were in the audience.
The comedy night will be held at the cricket club on the first Thursday of at least the next two months.
