Blackpool North Pier has found the perfect way to add to its 150th anniversary celebrations - booking one of the best up and coming comics in the country.

Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Chris Ramsey has been on countless TV shows over the past 12 months after being spotted by Al Murray.

Murray was so impressed by the young comic he invited him to be a support act on his national tour.

Now it’s Ramsey who is headlining shows and he’ll be in Blackpool on Thursday May 25.

That is good timing for North Pier, which celebrates its 150th birthday days earlier on May 21.

Ramsey can’t wait to play a place he considers to be the home of entertainment.

“Let’s be honest, you’re not really a proper comedian until you’ve done a Blackpool show - and to be doing the end of pier is even better,” he said.

Ramsey, an Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, will perform his new stand-up show Feeling Lucky.

Stephen Mercer, of North Pier Theatre, said: “We are excited to have comedian Chris Ramsey appearing at the theatre because he is an exceptional talent.

“As well as being a first class stand-up comic, he has won great reviews starring in his first acting role in the BBC sitcom Hebburn alongside Vic Reeves. It is fantastic that he has agreed to come to Blackpool and make his debut at North Pier Theatre.

“The North Pier is Blackpool’s oldest attraction and the fact Chris will be here just a few days after our 150th birthday will certainly add to the celebrations.

“The title of his show might be Feeling Lucky, but I would certainly suggest that the public buy their tickets as soon as possible or they won’t be feeling lucky at all - the majority of his previous tour dates have sold out.”

Feeling Lucky is Ramsey’s biggest ever live tour following the complete sell-out of the Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated Best Comedy Show Offermation in the spring of last year.

You might have seen the lad on TV because he’s on it often enough.

A busy 2012 saw Ramsey star alongside Vic Reeves in the acclaimed BBC sitcom Hebburn; host his own show, Chris Ramsey’s Comedy Fringe; and present four special highlight Fringe shows for BBC Three.

He is also a regular face on ITV’s Celebrity Juice, BBC’s Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats and is currently working with Avalon Television to develop his own comedy show.
