TV skating star - and local lad - Daniel Whiston is the latest name added to the bill for this year’s Blackpool pantomime.

Daniel will play the Prince in Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs at the Grand Theatre this festive season.

Already well known locally and in skating circles, Dan became a household name when he joined the professional line-up for ITV show Dancing On Ice.

Blackpool-born Daniel made an instant impact and was the show’s most successful skater - taking the title three times with his celebrity partners Gaynor Faye, Blackpool’s own Hayley Tamaddon and Beth Tweddle.

He’s joining the previously announced cast of actress Su Pollard and panto favourite, comedian Steve Royle.

Daniel said: “I am absolutely delighted to be playing the role of the Prince in Snow White at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre this year.

“The Grand’s panto is always hugely popular so it’s a real honour for me to have been given this role and to be part of such a great production.

“I make no secret of my love for Blackpool so to be performing on stage every night in my hometown is absolutely fantastic. I can’t wait for December.”

Grand Theatre marketing manager Andrew Howard said: “It is a pleasure to have Dan perform as The Prince in the Grand’s panto this Christmas, having seen his career flourish over the years.

“We are so excited to welcome Dan back to Blackpool, and to see him in his first performance here at the Grand Theatre.”

Daniel started skating aged seven and rose through the ranks at the Pleasure Beach Arena, as well as training at Phil Winston’s Theatreworks in dance, drama and singing.

His career highlights include being the lead skater in the Pleasure Beach’s Hot Ice Show, touring with Grease On Ice and Disney On Ice in North America, as well as in the European Tour of Holiday on Ice with Robin Cousins, and performing in the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing on Ice.

Daniel has also performed at the Royal Variety Performance, alongside Coldplay at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremony, and was an associate choreographer at the Olympic and Paralympic opening and closing ceremonies that year.

Since Dancing On Ice finished Dan runs fitness classes and has hosted shows on Ideal World shopping channel.

Dan has performed in panto previously alongside Bradley Walsh in Nottingham, but this is his hometown debut.

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs runs at the Grand Theatre, from Friday, December 4 to Sunday, January 3. Call (01253) 290190 for tickets.
