Watch out Weatherfield - Blackpool’s Lucy Fallon is heading to the cobbles, and she means trouble.

Or rather, her character Bethany Platt does.

The 19-year-old former Blackpool Sixth Form College student has this week started filming on the iconic ITV soap.

Speaking about her first moments on set this week - just days after landing the part - Lucy said: “Walking onto the set was surreal and nerve wracking but everyone has been really welcoming and I am thrilled to have been given this great opportunity.”

Lucy’s casting comes in the wake of Corrie sacking the actress they initially cast in the role after she lied in her CV.

Katie Redford had told the soap’s team she was 19, but in reality was 25 - 11 years older than Bethany.

There’s no such doubt cast over Lucy’s age, as the college confirmed she completed her BTEC extended diploma in performing arts last summer, going on to win a place at one of the country’s top stage schools Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London to study musical theatre.

Graham Hamlyn, curriculum leader for performing arts, said: “When Lucy joined the college we quickly recognised her acting potential.

“She played the lead female role of Sarah in our musical production of Our House, and also sang, danced and acted in several of our public showcases.

“We are delighted that Lucy has quickly landed her first acting role and we wish her well for her future career.”

Lucy has also appeared as a dancer in the Grand Theatre pantomimes the past two years, and trained at the Barbara Jackson Theatre Arts Centre.

Ex-Hodgson Academy pupil Lucy, from Cleveleys, will first appear in late March when her on screen character returns unexpectedly to Weatherfield from Milan after a row with her mum, Sarah Grimshaw - with Tina O’Brien returning to the role after nearly eight years away.

She will play alongside established soap legends such as Helen Worth who plays her grandmother Gail Platt and her troublemaker uncle David, played by Jack P Shepherd.

In a statement, Corrie bosses said: “In this first shot of actress Lucy Fallon on the Corrie set with Helen Worth and Jack P Shepherd, Bethany looks all sweetness and light.

“But it soon becomes clear that the teenager is going to cause problems for the already beleaguered Platt family.”

Sarah will arrive a week later, determined to drag her daughter kicking and screaming back to Italy, but the pair end up staying in Weatherfield when things don’t go exactly to plan.

The statement added: “In the coming months expect fireworks at number 8 as poor Gail struggles to cope with her family’s secrets and lies.”
