From Malibu beach to Blackpool beach, a TV legend is set to swap the Californian coast for the Fylde coast as he stars in a new musical.
Baywatch star David Hasselhoff will be the top attraction as Last Night A DJ Saved My Life opens at the Opera House in October, with the former Knight Rider actor playing a nightclub owner on the party island of Ibiza in the early 1990s.
The story features a throwback to the 80s and 90s, including songs from the likes of Take That, Madonna, Cher and MC Hammer.
The man nicknamed ‘The Hoff’ said he could not wait for the show to start, having visited Blackpool in 2011 to open a ride at the Pleasure Beach.
He added: “I went to Blackpool and I thought it was really cool.
“It reminds me of Atlantic City or Jersey . We are opening in Blackpool for a reason. It is a brand new show and this is the best place for it.
“It is a great idea with great music and Hasselhoff giving it 120 per cent.”
The Hoff plays Ross, Ibiza’s top 80s DJ who does not realise a new decade has dawned – disco is out and the club scene is in. He tries to keep up with the times with Mandy, his new younger girlfriend, played by Kim Tiddy from Hollyoaks and The Bill, but matters are complicated when his teenage daughter Penny – Stephanie Webber from TV’s The Voice – arrives to stay.
Father and daughter have not seen each other for three years, but no longer a demure schoolgirl, wild child Penny quickly falls for Rik, the holiday rep, played by Shane Richie Jnr.
He added: “It has to have heart and humour. It is about raising kids and that is the underlying issue to it. It has great songs and I can’t wait to start.”
The new production opens at the Blackpool Opera House on October 16, ahead of a major UK tour which will see The Hoff play 68 nights at more than 20 venues across the UK during a 13-week tour until February 2016.
